i have this weird urge to buy tons of “AMERICAAAAH” themed shit. i only ever barely get this urge toward the 4th of julio but for some reason it’s resurfacing a lot a lot a lot while i’ve been in europe. i can’t tell if adidas’ jumpsuits—and everything else—in american flag print are cool or ironic or both (what’s the diff mayne???) but i really want in on the deal. is this a vestige of the bush era and thus ironic or a new thing of the obama era and thus totally kewl and semi-hopefull or wat? if i cash in on this trend will it only last until august or will it be kewl when i return to the continental ee.uu? do i really care if it will or won’t be kewl then anyway?

1. beautiful (and nice!!!) milanese people
“you’re from california? w0o0o0w!” or “you’re from california! mama mia!” was really endearing.
2. italian shoes
stocked up. went with a pair came back with three. don’t judge.
3. aperitivo.
went with one stomach came back with three part ii don’t judge. 7 euro cocktail plus unlimited snackage is really the key to any fatty’s heart.
but in all seriousness. i really don’t understand why milan gets so much shit. it’s the best after barca. thee best.

i’ve always been highly against white girls and dudes with dreads (stop appropriatin’ y’all) but my hair get’s so tangled here that i’m starting to sympathize with all the chicas y chicos in barcelona who have them. i don’t know what the fuck it is. the 50 mph wind that pushes you out of the metro station? the sea breeze? the funky water?
today it took me 20 minutes to brush my hair. shit’s gotta stop.
JUST TO CLARIFY: i’m not getting dreads. ew.

- My accent. I think we take for granted being fluent in a language. You never know where the accents go. Saying things in an American accent really does make them impossible to understand. (For the record, I don’t think my accent is that bad. I just sometimes put accents in the wrong places)
- My clothes. I think there’s just something about our clothes that screams, “I’m American”. I don’t know what it is. I just know that our first day here, some guy walked up to my friend Mika and said “I think you speak English. Those are not Italian shoes.”
- The pace at which I walk. People here are so slow! I mean, seriously, just get out of the way and let people walk down the sidewalk.
- I order coffee drinks with milk after noon. I don’t know why this is a faux pas. Sometimes, I like to drink a latte macchiato at 8pm, ok? Get over it.
- I very obviously pronounce English words in English. This is like someone saying in perfect English, “Yesterday, I took the train to Roma” and that person says Roma completely Italian. Italians love English words and I find it hilarious when they try to pronounce them. Of course, they can’t understand me when I actually say it in English. ”L’ho trovato sul Internet”.
ON NUMBER 3
i feel really rude whenever i’m in a hurry and walk fast in barca but good god people are so slow.
also, on numero 5, i have gotten into the habit of pronouncing english words spanish. wi-fi is too fun not to pronounce “wee-fee”. i also really enjoy saying “estarbooks”. like, really enjoy.
